IS “Bulldozes” Ancient Assyrian City

On March 5, the Islamic State deployed heavy vehicles and bulldozed the ancient Assyrian city near Nimrud in northern Iraq, the Iraqi government said, France24 reports.
Nimrud, which was founded in the 13th century BC, lies on the Tigris around 30 km southeast of Mosul, Iraq’s second city and the main hub of the IS group in the country. According to Iraqi officials, Nimrud is one of the jewels of the Assyrian era.
